AK Automotive is the trading name of Tony Kitchen. Tony is an apprentice trained, fully qualified mechanic and ex Saab Master Technician. He is also an experienced motor industry technical training instructor and a qualified teacher in the adult education sector.
As a vehicle mechanic and technician, Tony worked at Saab dealership River Garage in Old Stratford, Milton Keynes from 1985 until 1999. During his time there, he attended many Saab training courses at the Saab Learning Centre in Northampton. This included Saab’s prestigious master technician programme in 1996.
(In its day, the Saab training programme was widely regarded as ‘industry benchmark’, by the Institute of the Motor Industry and other vehicle manufacturers. Today’s vehicle manufacturer training programmes try to emulate the values originally instilled by Saab Training for technical excellence, diagnostic ability and customer service. Some achieve this better than others).
Tony became interested in teaching in 1997 and attended college in the evenings to obtain a basic teaching qualification. In 1999, Tony was offered an opportunity to enter into motor industry technical training. This offer came from ex Saab technical training instructor Glen Baker of GR Baker Consulting.
Since 1999, Tony has worked freelance providing training services for several vehicle manufacturers. In 2006, he started writing and delivering his own courses and has since built up a reputation for providing high quality training to a wide range range of motor industry clients both in the UK as well as overseas.
Today, AK Automotive are based in Daventry, Northamptonshire and still provide manufacturer training services, most recently for Hyundai.
The core business is aftermarket training, focusing in vehicle electrical systems and diagnostics and also specialising more and more in on-site training.
In 2016, Tony Kitchen successfully completed the teaching qualification for the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training. He has recently also taken on additional project work providing proof reading of online training course materials for an overseas training company.
Tony is a practicing vehicle diagnostics technician and is continuously researching and developing technologies and new materials to pass his knowledge and expertise on to fellow motor industry professionals.
