AK Automotive Vehicle Electrics Training Course
This is a two day technical course for experienced vehicle mechanics, technicians and final year apprentices who would like to learn more about CAN bus and bus networked electronic systems found on modern vehicles including electric and hybrid vehicles.
Course content covers the following main topics:
- Overview automotive bus technologies
(CAN, LIN, FlexRay, MOST) - Technical features of the CAN bus
- CAN hardware and terminating resistors
- Testing CAN voltage and resistance
- The CAN protocol explained
- CAN baud rates and ISO standards
- Physical properties of CAN bus networks
- The CAN gateway and diagnostic interface
- CAN network topology
- Electric vehicle CAN bus networks
- The data link connector and CAN standardisations
- CAN fault tolerance and isolated wire CAN systems
- LIN, MOST and FlexRay bus technologies explained
- Spare parts replacement, programming / configuratio
- CAN bus diagnostics & fault finding
During the course, you will gain a detailed working knowledge of CAN bus and related bus networking technologies. The courses also includes an overview of bus networks used for electric and hybrid electric vehicle high energy drive train and battery charging systems.
You will learn how to test the CAN bus using multimeter and oscilloscope (using the well known PicoScope automotive oscilloscope) in conjunction with diagnostic scan tool and available technical information.
You will use wiring diagrams to identify and familiarise with the configuration and layout of bus networked systems. You will learn how modern vehicle systems are integrated via use of multiple CAN, LIN and FlexRay bus networks.
The course comprises workshop based practical sessions using live vehicles supported by
technical presentations and discussions.
At the start of the course, you will receive a fully illustrated set of course reference notes.
By the end of the course, you will have gained a detailed working knowledge of vehicle bus networked systems. You will be able to diagnose CAN bus and bus related faults on integrated vehicle electrical systems.
Prerequisites
Those wishing to attend this course must have a motor industry or other relevant technical background (e.g. ex R.E.M.E or emergency services), be competent with use of multimeters, oscilloscopes, diagnostic scan tools, be PC literate, fluent in English and able to read motor vehicle wiring diagrams.
Candidates may benefit from first attending Vehicle Electrical Fault Finding Techniques before attempting this course.
Certified IMI recognition
The course has certified approval from the Institute of the Motor Industry (The IMI) for a Professional Development Certificate PDC.
At the end of the course, you will also receive a certificate of professional development from AK Automotive in recognition of your attendance.
